Ah, dear Oberoi Lombok, where shall I start? Perhaps with the scent of plumerias in your lush green gardens, which will stay in my memory forever? With the massage, that almost made me fall asleep 3 times in one session? Or with the picture-perfect breakfast setting? No matter where or how I start, the Oberoi Beach Resort Lombok review cannot end with anything other but a perfect 10.
Luxury disclaimer
Oberoi Beach Resort, Lombok, is a luxury 5-star resort and it is not something that you afford every day. We had the honor to stay there for 3 days, and it was enough to enjoy most of the comfort, services, and activities the resort has to offer. If you can stretch a day or two longer, you will not regret it, but for us, 3 days offered the perfect getaway from a somewhat chaotic (but charming!) Lombok we experienced in other places.
Location
The resort is located near Medana Bay, in the northeast part of Lombok. The drive from the Lombok International Airport takes roughly 1 and a half hours, which is nothing unusual for the island, considering the roads and infrastructure. You can either take a Bluebird taxi or make pre-arranged transfer with the hotel staff.
The location itself is very private, which means you practically don’t meet anyone else except the staff and the hotel guests for the entire vacation. The hotel offers trips and transfers, but you can also rent a bicycle for free and explore the nearby beaches. You must be quite fit though, as riding a bike on Lombok roads is not smooth sailing.
The property
Oberoi property is huge and despite 50 villas which might seem close to one another, I doubt it ever gets crowded. Many villas come with private pools, meaning that people don’t go to the main pool or the beach at all. The main pool is large and has enough sunbeds, and the same goes for the beach area.
There are two restaurants, a pool-beach bar, and a small setting near the reception where they serve complimentary afternoon tea and coffee with local delights. Breakfast is served outside in Sunbird Cafe, with a direct ocean view, in one of the nicest settings I’ve seen. The dinner in Lumbung restaurant is served on an a la carte basis and the prices are something you would expect for an upscale resort. Worth every dollar, though.
The resort also boasts a spa and a small gym, which we found by coincidence when taking a massage. (Dear management, a clearer sign would be helpful). I can say with all my fingers out, that the massage was the best in my life. I took the traditional one, and it literally made me fall asleep several times. It is much more expensive than the ones in the streets of Lombok, but again, worth every dollar.
The villas
We stayed in a Luxury Villa Ocean View with a Private pool (a long name indeed 😀 ). The place was huge, and I could easily imagine living there for a month. The terrace with a private pool offers complete intimacy and the pool is big and deep enough for a decent swim. A gazebo and sunbeds are also there for your comfort. What I liked the most, was the plumeria tree which smelled so nice and dropped the lovely flowers in the pool.
I am not even going to describe the villa, because it obviously has everything you need and much more. Two separate sinks and mirrors (his and hers) in a royal bathroom, a separate shower and a tub, a balcony with sunset views, and a spacious bed with THE SOFTEST PILLOWS EVER. It made me want to steal one, I swear, but it didn’t fit in my suitcase. Sorry, management, at least I am being honest.
The beach
Oberoi Lombok boasts a more or less private beach since the area is naturally secluded. It is not a “Maldives” type of beach, but there are some small parts with light sand, which is common for this area. To be honest, we didn’t swim there at all, but my guess is that it must be good for snorkeling since there were many corals and stones in the water. You can also rent a kayak or SUP, which is great as the water is mostly calm in the bay.
Anda’s rate: 10 out of 10
Bottom line: If you are looking for a luxury escape in bustling Lombok, The Oberoi Beach Resort is a no-brainer. The green property with hundreds of palm trees and a perfect sunset spot is something you won’t easily forget.
