Fear of flying? Interview with a pilot and some interesting facts might help!

This might sound strange to you, but in the past few years my fear of flying has increased enormously. It all started on my trip to Vietnam; we had some modest turbulence during the flight for about 2 hours, and for some reason I was sweating and shaking like a leaf, waiting for the end to come. It probably had also a lot to do with the fact that I was flying alone and I definitely didn’t want to make my hairy sweetheart an orphan. Since this has been going on a lot lately (I guess the older I get, the more alive I want to be), I have decided to get familiar with my chances to survive up in […]

Hotel review: Gevora hotel (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

Another visit to Dubai calls for another opportunity to try something new, starting by choosing a new hotel. This time I decided to stay close to Dubai World Trade Center because I was attending Arab Health exhibition and had some meetings there in three consecutive days. Hotel rates usually skyrocket during special events and exhibitions (paying almost 300$ a night for Ibis hotel, seriously guys?), but I somehow got lucky: Gevora hotel showed a special rate during my search on booking.com (by the way, you can get 15€ off your next booking by using this link) and I didn’t hesitate even for a second. I booked a room and asked for “a nice view”. And what a view that was! […]

Hotel review: Metropolitan hotel Dubai (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

When in Dubai, I usually stay somewhere in Deira but this time I decided to make a change. I wanted to be close to Mall of the Emirates and Burj al Arab because I love those places. Metropolitan hotel Dubai had some very nice reviews and when I saw it offers rooms with the view of the iconic “sail”, I didn’t hesitate with booking even for a second. Location Metropolitan hotel Dubai is conveniently located on Sheikh Zayed Road, around 2 kilometers from the Jumeirah beach and around 3 from Emirates mall. You will need about 30 minutes to reach there from the airport – so if your return flight is in rush hours, that might be a challenge. Mine […]

Slovenes abroad: Crt, Dubai (United Arab Emirates)

Crt is a nice, interesting and quite a mysterious guy. From someone who has been leading a very exciting life in Dubai for the past 2 years, doing things that most of us can only dream of, I would expect an explosion of bragging and showing off. But Crt is nothing like that. He works hard and he is very good at what he does. And he still loves coming home to Slovenia. Hi Crt, we made it, finally! Yeah, my schedule is quite busy, as you have already figured out. Today I am here, tomorrow … who knows 😊 What does that mean, what is it actually that you do in Dubai? I work on different projects, but most […]

A day visit to Burj Al Arab hotel (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

If I asked you to name 3 the most famous hotels in the world, which ones would you pick? And if I mention Dubai, what name comes to your mind first? I believe it goes without saying that even if not the tallest, the biggest or the most expensive in the world, Burj Al Arab is definitely the icon among the hotels. But is it worth paying over 100 EUR for a day visit to Burj Al Arab with an afternoon tea just to say “I’ve been there”?

Hotel review: Somewhere Hotel Apartment (Dubai, UAE)

For my December business visit to Dubai I decided to book a hotel in Deira because of the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (I had an early departure flight and I didn’t want to risk getting stuck in a traffic jam). I have stayed in several hotels in Deira before and this time I wanted to try something new. I was looking for 1. convenient location, 2. at least 4-stars hotel for a reasonable price and 3. the rooms without carpets because of my ongoing allergies. Somewhere Hotel Apartment seemed to offer all that and a lot more. Location Somewhere Hotel Apartment is a 5-star hotel offering spacious apartment suites in one of the best possible locations in Deira. It […]

Hotel review: Ibis One Central (Dubai, UAE)

If you are coming to Dubai on business, you are very likely to visit one of numerous exhibitions that take place at Dubai World Trade Centre  one day. Especially with large trade shows it can get very busy there in terms of traffic, so unless you don’t have a problem with taking a metro, I highly advise you to book one of the hotels within the walking distance. Since all nearby hotels raise the prices up to 50% of usual rates, Ibis One Central is one of the reasonable options to choose. Location There are actually two Ibis hotels near World Trade Centre: the older one is just a few steps away from the courtyard fountain, and the new Ibis […]
