If you are traveling to Western Norway, <\/strong>the famous Geiranger fjord<\/strong> will probably be on your \u201cmust-see\u201d list. It is one of Norway\u2019s most visited tourist points, especially since it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005.\u00a0 Despite its popularity, there are not many options to stay near Geiranger fjord. Especially, if you want to spend the night in a small cozy village, located in the end of the fjord. There are a couple of hotels in Geiranger*, but you need to be super fast to get a room there. Luckily, Grande Fjord Hotel<\/strong> had a vacancy during our road trip and we decided to treat ourselves with a fjord-view room.<\/p>\n

*If you drive a campervan, you can stay in the camp, but it also gets sold out very fast. But if you are traveling by car, I suggest you book a room a couple of months in advance. Even in the times of Covid-19 pandemics, the entire Geiranger was literally sold out!<\/em><\/p>\n

Location<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Grande Fjord hotel is located a couple of kilometers from Geiranger<\/strong> village. The hotel offers free parking<\/strong>, as well as a complimentary pick up<\/strong> at the port, if you give them a heads up. We found the location much more intimate compared to overcrowded Geiranger, where you could hardly find an empty parking spot. Its proximity to the fjord<\/strong> also makes it perfect for a summer swim, if the weather is kind. We were lucky enough to try it for ourselves, and the sea experience was quite… well, refreshing! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

R<\/strong>ooms<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Grande Fjord Hotel is a 4-star boutique hotel<\/strong> with a variety of rooms that come with different prices. The fjord view rooms<\/strong> are of course more expensive, however the spectacular views deserve the extra budget. I didn\u2019t see the non-view rooms, but the photos in the official page<\/a> promise they are just as nicely decorated. Our room in 5th<\/sup> floor<\/strong> came with a balcony<\/strong> which in my opinion added that extra value to our stay.<\/p>\n

The room was not huge, but big enough to make us feel comfortable. I especially appreciated the Nespresso coffee machine<\/strong> with complimentary coffee and tea. The bathroom was small but nice and the carefully selected toiletries added that special fancy touch. The orientation of the balcony makes the views special throughout the day, and even the short rain shower we witnessed in the afternoon was somehow magical.<\/p>\n

The restaurant<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Hyskje restaurant<\/strong> is located in the 6th floor<\/strong> and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner<\/strong>. It is very elegant, spacious and light and it offers fjord views as well. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had<\/strong>, with lots of varieties for different tastes. I especially loved the fresh fruit choices<\/strong>; I don\u2019t know where the Norwegians get the strawberries from, but they are out of this world! You can of course also have sausages, eggs of any style<\/strong>, as well as the healthy choices<\/strong> like muesli. To be honest, I am not sure which I liked better, the balcony views or the breakfast selection.<\/p>\n

Other facilities<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We were actually so tired from our road trip that we didn\u2019t get to enjoy everything Grande Fjord hotel has to offer. I could see the jacuzzi<\/strong> from our balcony and since the water inside is 38-40 Celsius, I am sure it feels great to dip in. The hotel also offers a small fitness center<\/strong>, just in case you are not too much into hiking and still want to keep in shape. They can also hook you up with some trips and excursions<\/strong>, all you need to do is ask at the reception. The staff is super nice.<\/p>\n

Anda\u2019s rate: 10 from 10<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bottom line:<\/strong> I have literally zero bad things to say about Grande Fjord hotel. It does not come cheap, however its location, services and rooms are worth the money you pay for. After all, this is Norway and you are staying at the Wolrd Heritage Geiranger fjord. If you want some peace and quiet with a touch of luxury, take my word for it and treat yourself with staying here. Just check the availability first, because the hotel is not operating all year round.<\/p>\n
