Most of people want to <strong>visit Croatia during summer<\/strong> for the obvious reasons. There are not a lot of countries in the world where you can choose between hundreds of <strong>\u00a0islands<\/strong> (Hvar, Brac, Korcula being amongst most popular) or so-called <strong>mainland rivieras<\/strong> with <strong>beautiful old towns<\/strong> like <strong>Dubrovnik or Split<\/strong>. I have visited most of Croatian rivieras (in fact, I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/20\/weekend-trip-to-opatija\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visit Opatija<\/a> almost every month), and I can easily say that <strong>Makarska<\/strong> is one of the <strong>most beautiful ones in the Adriatic region<\/strong>. Unfortunately, millions of tourists also know this, so prepare to get crowded. A lot. If you aren\u2019t traveling by your own car, I suggest you check\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sixt.com\/car-rental\/croatia\/#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sixt rent a car<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 my personal experience with them has always been very smooth.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-vie1-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t1.0-9\/31776160_2039112629451981_7171818845642948608_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&amp;_nc_oc=AQlQTRcL31WcC_OkiGaPEmKDmpLezMBcluKrulzfyPySS9aCqnc3QfkCjFB0_icPhVEfTIJvocrd16DXkJU07nyS&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-vie1-1.xx&amp;oh=0dfad612327ee98cf2a359f992f38ed3&amp;oe=5DEFFB49\" alt=\"Image may contain: sky, bridge, plant, tree, outdoor, nature and water\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>1. MOSTAR<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>This will probably come as a surprise, but 2 out of 5 <strong>things to do around Makarska Riviera<\/strong> in my book are actually located in the neighboring country of <strong>Bosnia and Herzegovina<\/strong>. First one is Mostar, a charming city with a <strong>beautiful old town<\/strong> and scenic <strong>stone bridge<\/strong> across the <strong>Neretva River<\/strong>. Get lost in the <strong>cobblestone streets<\/strong> full of bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Buy yourself some nice coffee set, knit house socks or cozy slippers. Treat yourself with delicious cevapi, burek or baklava and worry about the calories later. In fact, you can burn them the next day in Biokovo mountain &#x1f609;<\/p>\n<p><em>Tips and tricks: Distance from Makarska: around 90 km or less than 2 hour\u2019s drive. Duration: whole-day trip. Passport and money: you need a valid passport to enter BIH, and you can pay in Euros nearly everywhere (the exchange rate is around 2 convertible marks for 1 EUR), which is not usually the case in Croatia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-vie1-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t1.0-9\/69881058_10157441625703389_1016678205605543936_o.jpg?_nc_cat=107&amp;_nc_oc=AQny_iNuHDv82ZUW_DXSF8OJMttOGs9FON7H9LojkRodfHNP5wPKrohUJj5OWz1ppg-zbDlNhs_Bf7vQDvhTrHAl&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-vie1-1.xx&amp;oh=b95fc5eb5185b550c1692fae8392a0d7&amp;oe=5E33B65D\" alt=\"Image may contain: sky, mountain, outdoor and nature\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>2. National park Biokovo (Biokovo mountain)<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>About those calories\u2026 The next in line is the <strong>national park Biokovo<\/strong>, a beautiful mountain range with several hiking paths and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. <strong>Mount Biokovo<\/strong> is the second highest in Croatia, rising at 1,762 meters above the sea level. There are several ways you can reach the top of <strong>Sv. Jure (St. George)<\/strong> to walk around the peak, overlooking all sides of the mountain: by bus, by car, by bicycle (very popular route by the way) or on foot (around 2 hours hiking from the coastline). Be sure not to miss one of the spectacular\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pp-biokovo.hr\/en\/60\/park-offer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lookout points<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 I visited <strong>Vo\u0161ac<\/strong> which can be reached from a parking lot and an easy 15 minutes\u2019 hike.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tips and tricks: Entrance fee: 50 HRK per person in a vehicle (25 HRK for bicycle). Bring a lot of water, although there are a few kiosks along the way. It is very windy and quite cold on the top so bring a light jacket, even during summer, especially on a cloudy day. Kravica Waterfalls<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Back to Bosnia and Herzegovina but this time less shopping and more nature. The<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kravice.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kravica Waterfalls <\/a><\/strong>is a very green and picturesque watery area, about 50 km away from Mostar. Since you can actually take the same road from Makarska, you might consider either joining the 2 destinations, or spending the night in Mostar. This way you can properly try some of that killer Bosnian rakija and not having to worry who will drive back &#x1f609; You can find some of Mostar and Kravica pictures in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/travelwithanda\/photos\/?tab=album&amp;album_id=2039063552790222\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook album<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tips and tricks: Kravica (also Kravice) waterfalls is located around 80 km from Makarska and is open to visits from May to October only. The waterfall itself is very accessible \u2013 it is about 25 meters high with a small lake below so bring your swimsuit and thank me later.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-vie1-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t1.0-9\/31919539_2043006539062590_2997501931221417984_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&amp;_nc_oc=AQmEk_F0-VZlItlvX_6BTL-x_q3ZEpvsLaQRe-f42hylk4HhuV-Vpiw7-khOYnTnLQK-DB7ADK2W3XNAhWTNe-xO&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-vie1-1.xx&amp;oh=a2d54663cdda868f78867ae144313c2e&amp;oe=5DF486DB\" alt=\"Image may contain: sky and outdoor\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>4. Dubrovnik<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Game of Thrones<\/strong> or hashtag <strong>#GOT<\/strong>. Need I say more? Although you will probably get stuck in traffic and even meet worse crowds than in Makarska beach, let\u2019s be honest: you need to see the <strong>old town<\/strong> and the great <strong>wall of Dubrovnik<\/strong>. And you need to climb on <strong>Mount Srd<\/strong> to scream: Dracarys!<\/p>\n<p><em>Tips and tricks: Dubrovnik is roughly 2,5 hours\u2019 drive from Makarska, so this is not a hop-on hop-off thing. Sure, you can make it a one day trip, but if you want to walk the walls, get robbed in one of the restaurants (prices are really crazy so be careful and check the menus before you enter), hike or drive to Mt Srd to watch the sunset\u2026 well, do your own math, I ain\u2019t your mama.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-vie1-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t1.0-9\/25592157_1890758317620747_1274138923443900501_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&amp;_nc_oc=AQng6lgtllL_IuD03GlA1PPt4QW2e22UFHqlB_vG-A9JYCYtcBwDkuIY5yOI0utrLIwubf7ejkziN4kA3MWPtQKE&amp;_nc_ht=scontent-vie1-1.xx&amp;oh=c5d958f5a98bb6a330989cdd73a37806&amp;oe=5DF4923E\" alt=\"Image may contain: tree, plant, sky, outdoor, nature and water\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>5. Krka National Park<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>I am a sucker for national parks and instead of pointing you towards the town of Split or \u0160ibenik, I will rather suggest <strong>another waterfall<\/strong>. A huge one this time. I mean like a real national park one. <strong>Krka National Park<\/strong> lies within \u0160ibenik-Knin County and covers a total area of 109 square kilometers on the nicest section of the <strong>Krka River<\/strong>. The park is easily walkable within an hour or so \u2013 if you just want to follow the wooden path towards the waterfall. Several other options of recreation and tourism activities are also possible. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.np-krka.hr\/stranice\/pricelist-2019-individual-visitors\/337\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">entrance fee<\/a>\u00a0varies within seasons from 30 to 200 HRK.
