If you want to know why, I\u2019ll explain briefly in the next two paragraphs, but if you are only here for the \u201cthings to do\u201d tips, just skip them and scroll down to &#8220;le big 5&#8221;.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The main reason behind the sarcasm around Slovenia\u2019s \u201cflights situation\u201d lies in the former Slovene airline <strong>Adria Airways,<\/strong> now owned by a German investment company which promised to save the company but has <em>*big surprise*<\/em> only managed to squeeze more money out of it. Anyways, Adria Airways has been in some really deep shit lately. Things were already bad a couple of years ago under Slovene government ownership (if you understand Slovene, you can read my post about it <a href=\"https:\/\/metinalista.si\/leteca-sramota-ali-saga-o-leteci-prtljagi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>), but it is getting worse and worse. Adria has started to combine the flights (for example people who had bought direct flight tickets had to make a stop-over out of the blue to pick up the passengers from another airport), causing huge delays and also canceling some flights completely. I know this shit happens occasionally with other airlines as well, but when you read about it on a weekly basis, even in the prime-time news, and when hundreds of passengers don\u2019t get compensations for over 6 months (even more), you know this is just a step away from shutting everything down.<\/p>\n<div class='adkingprobanneradsense sidebar banner344' rel='344'><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6150236094919176\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1398083402\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><script type='text\/javascript'>ga('send', 'event', '', 'Impression', '');<\/script>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t get into details about why and who to blame for this shameful situation because it hurts too much, every damn day. After all, Slovenes love traveling and Adria Airways used to be a national pride. Fortunately, there are other airlines (like Turkish Airlines, one of my favorites, and btw this is NOT sponsored post) which know how to do the job properly, so we still have some decent options to fly in an out. Anyways, you have been warned, so try to find an alternative flight before you pay for your ticket because you will probably never get a compensation, much less the whole refund.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you don\u2019t have any other option and since it is highly likely your flight will be cancelled or delayed when you are flying with Adria, you are actually quite lucky because Slovenia is so small that you can find something to do around almost every corner. Ljubljana Airport (formerly <strong>Brnik,<\/strong> now officially called <strong>Joze Pucnika Airport<\/strong>) is located very close to Slovene capital Ljubljana, and even closer to some other places that just may knock you out. In a positive way, of course. If you have <strong>at least 3 hours waiting time<\/strong> and you are able to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sixt.si\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rent a car<\/a> (taxis can be quite expensive, try to bargain and do your own math), here are a few options on how to spend your time while waiting for your next flight in Ljubljana Airport:<\/p>\n<h5><strong>1. SHOPPING IN QLANDIA<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>If you are a shopaholic, go to Qlandia, which is a <strong>small shopping mall in Kranj<\/strong> with some low to mid-range brands like New Yorker, S Oliver, Tom Tailor, Calzedonia and Intimissimi (clothes), Mass, CCC and Deichmann (shoes), Muller and DM (cosmetics), Adidas, Hervis, Samsonite; there is also a pharmacy (in case you need something to calm you down), and a few bars to grab a decent bite or drink to calm you down even faster &#x1f609;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Distance and time needed:<\/strong> Qlandia is less than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Qlandia+Kranj\/@46.2319178,14.3674587,15z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x7e34c190c446821f!8m2!3d46.2319178!4d14.3674587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">20 minutes\u2019 drive away<\/a> (taxi should cost you around 15 \u2013 20\u20ac, but don\u2019t hold my word for it). You can easily spend 1 \u2013 2 hours there. It is open Monday \u2013 Saturday from 9 am till 9 pm, and till 3 pm on Sundays. \u00a0<\/em> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"518\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj-347x260.jpg 347w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/things-to-do-near-ljubljana-airport-blog-anda-arko-visit-kranj.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/p>\n<h5><strong>2. VISIT KRANJ<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitkranj.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kranj<\/a> is the fourth largest city in Slovenia and the <strong>\u201ccapital\u201d of Gorenjska<\/strong> (Upper Carniola) region. Though mainly industrial city, Kranj has a well-preserved old town where you can have a nice stroll and grab some coffee or lunch. If you prefer nature you can take a relaxing walk along Kokra river canyon below the city of Kranj.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Distance and time needed:<\/strong> Kranj <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Glavni+trg,+4000+Kranj\/@46.2388135,14.3533639,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x477ab81d352ba639:0xf59ddc9f98087d7e!8m2!3d46.238659!4d14.3556428\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">city center<\/a> with the old town is just a few minutes\u2019 drive further from Qulandia. BRDO CASTLE<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>This option would be my favorite because you can avoid possible traffic jams (it can get busy around Kranj during rush hours, around 8-9 am and 3-5 pm) and you can really enjoy the beauty of Gorenjska region. I am not saying this is the best Gorenjska has to offer, however, if you only have an hour or two (plus the drive), <strong>Brdo Estate<\/strong> is pretty damn close to perfection. You can read my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/22\/slovenia-day-trips-brdo-estate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">full review here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Distance and time needed:<\/strong> Again, we are talking about approximately 20 minutes\u2019 drive from Ljubljana Airport, just more to the North-East. An easy walk around the lakes will take about 1 hour, however if you prefer golfing\u2026 well, you know your shit better than me &#x1f609;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>4. ZBILJE LAKE<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Another beautiful scenery close to Brnik Airport is offered by Zbilje lake (Zbiljsko jezero). It is an artificial (dammed) lake with well-maintained paths, where you can have a nice relaxing stroll watching hundreds of swans. Or, you can just sit in the bar, have a desert and watch the swans from the dock.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Distance and time needed:<\/strong> Guess what? Around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Zbiljsko+jezero\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x477acbe270413d25:0x1a8b060693adc671?sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjhpo7jtrfjAhVJxaYKHdEeC0gQ8gEwD3oECBEQBA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">20 minutes again<\/a>. The walk is quite short, so unless you want to make selfies with the swans, you are up to 10 \u2013 20 minutes easy stroll. OR *tadaaaa* you can pick up your favorite <a href=\"http:\/\/valens-health.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food supplement<\/a> (made in Slovenia, slovene version <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valens.si\/\">here<\/a>), email me and stop by my office for a quick purchase. If I really like you, I might even buy you coffee. Or you can grab your own in Antic caf\u00e9 beneath my office. I actually hang out there a lot so even if you don\u2019t buy our supplements, you might spot a blonde staring at her cellphone. If she is upside down, it is definitely me &#x1f609;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Distance and time needed:<\/strong> Planet Tus is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Planet+Tu%C5%A1,+4000+Kranj\/@46.2366828,14.3712054,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x477ab7ef7d9129b5:0xcb0701f6c1e4116e!8m2!3d46.2366828!4d14.3733941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2 minutes closer<\/a> to Ljubljana Airport compared to Qlandia (they are located on the same road), and Antic Caf\u00e9 below my office is actually less than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Antic+Caffe\/@46.2361727,14.4100787,15z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x648f5fc8f24e9935!8m2!3d46.2361727!4d14.4100787\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">10 minutes<\/a> away.
