And I am not only referring to Slovenia, my home country, which is in my opinion one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but literally my doorstep \u2013 the town I have been living in the past couple of years. Bornova pot (Born trail) is definitely something I should have done a long time ago!<\/p>\n<div class='adkingprobanneradsense sidebar banner344' rel='344'><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6150236094919176\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"1398083402\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/div><script type='text\/javascript'>ga('send', 'event', '', 'Impression', '');<\/script>\n<p>I swear this Sunday trip had nothing to do with the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/travel\/destinations\/europe\/slovenia\/trzic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Geographic<\/a> just recently put Tr\u017ei\u010d on a global map, describing it as \u201can outdoor sanctuary, nestled among the alpine peaks of northern Slovenia near the Austrian border, where nature is part of daily life\u201d. Nevertheless, thank you, NG and thank you, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ciriljazbec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ciril Jazbec<\/a> for your awesome work!<\/p>\n<p>It just so happened that it has been a whole month full of traveling and happening, so it felt right to stay home for at least one day. As long as \u201cstaying home\u201d is just a figure of speech. You can hike up to <strong>Kri\u0161ka gora<\/strong> (Kriska mountain, 1.471 m, which takes about 1.5 hour walk through rather steep path in the woods, with a nice view of Gorenjska region, Julian alps and Stol mountain on the top), bicycle through 300 million years old protected natural monument <strong>Dov\u017eanova soteska<\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visit-trzic.com\/en\/attractions\/natural-attractions\/the-dovzan-gorge.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dovzan Gorge<\/a><\/strong>), or walk up the old unpaved <strong>Ljubelj road<\/strong>, known for the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.ljubelj.si\/oldtimers-mountain-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International oldtimers&#8217; mountain race<\/a><\/strong> (by the way, the next race is scheduled on September 10<sup>th<\/sup> 2017 so see you there \ud83d\ude09 ) But for really nice views you have to hike <strong>Bornova pot (Born trail)<\/strong>, which I somehow hesitated to take until this Sunday.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1044\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4112\" height=\"3088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386216554746-346x260.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4112px) 100vw, 4112px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can leave your car on the parking lot right before the Ljubelj tunnel (which leads to Austria), put on your hiking shoes (you can also do it in sneakers, but definitely don\u2019t wear flip flops, even if you are British), take a bottle of water and get ready for about 1.5 hour adventure. By the way Born trail was made in late 19<sup>th<\/sup> century by Karl Born, a baron from Berlin who loved these mountains and bought a land nearby. The trail was originally used for hunting but the legend says that the baron had used it for secret meetings with his mistresses.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4112\" height=\"3088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150386368003955-346x260.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4112px) 100vw, 4112px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First half of the path is the most picturesque with really nice views of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visit-trzic.com\/en\/attractions\/cultural-attractions\/mauthausen.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ljubelj concentration camp<\/a>, Podljubelj village and the road that leads to Tr\u017ei\u010d. But this part is also the most slippery due to a few scree slopes which could lead to landslide if you don\u2019t watch your step. I mean people do take small children here and even my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/index.php\/2016\/03\/26\/chihuahua-corner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chihuahua<\/a> passed easily &#8211; I just want to point out that you should take the hike seriously. Soon you will spot a small tunnel which you need to pass to get to the other side of the hill and even though it is only about 50 meters long, carrying a light with you is practically a must.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Fotor_150391418281267-347x260.jpg 347w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4032px) 100vw, 4032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are hiking on a hot sunny day you will appreciate the shade of the trees which cover the second half of the path. It does get a little steep there from time to time, especially when you have to \u201cjump over\u201d the roots, but it\u2019s really not that a big of a deal. The biggest challenge when it comes to stretching your legs are actually the last 100 meters \u2013 the grand finale \u2013 before you reach the top. From that point you also need to put your dog on a leash as there are cows wandering around. And watch your step if you don\u2019t want it to get dirty \ud83d\ude42<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4112\" height=\"3088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364-690x518.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.travelwithanda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_20170827_214836_364-346x260.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4112px) 100vw, 4112px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The top in my case was <strong>Prevala cabin<\/strong> (1.311 m), but lots of hikers use that place just as a pit stop on their way to <strong>Begunj\u0161\u010dica<\/strong> (Begunjscica mountain, 2.060 m) which is another 2 hours uphill. The cabin offers some traditional \u201chiking\u201d dishes like <strong>ajdovi \u017eganci<\/strong> (buckwheat meal with sour milk), <strong>jota<\/strong> (sour cabbage with beans &amp; sausage) and <strong>\u0161truklji<\/strong> (dumplings) at very reasonable prices. You can find your spot on the terrace and enjoy the views of nearby hills, Radovljica town and the grand <strong>Triglav<\/strong> \u2013 the tallest mountain in Slovenia (2.864 m). If you forgot your camera and are superfit you can do it in less than an hour.<\/li>\n<li>There are actually 2 tunnels (in a row) and it is really advisable to take along some kind of lamp, or at least use your cell phone light to pass them. Sometimes the grounds can be partly covered with water so do watch your step.<\/li>\n<li>Dogs are welcome, and they only need to be on a leash up at the cabin because of the cows.<\/li>\n<li>Children are welcome only if they behave nicely \ud83d\ude1b<\/li>\n<li>Take a bottle of water as it might get superhot from time to time on the way.
